CAT COLLECTION
SIAMESE
DESCRIPTION
The Siamese is one of the oldest and most distinctive breeds in the world, a sacred temple cat of the Kingdom of Siam, depicted in the Tamra Maew, a fourteenth-century Thai manuscript of cat poetry. When the breed first arrived in the West, as a diplomatic gift from Bangkok to the British Consul-General in 1884, it caused an immediate sensation that has never quite subsided.
The Siamese has been the cat of choice for the literary and the louche: T.S. Eliot wrote about them, Vivien Leigh adored them, and the breed has appeared in everything from Disney's Lady and the Tramp to the apartments of contemporary novelists and stylists. The Siamese remains the breed that introduces drama into every room it enters.
The Siamese edition is the most dramatic in the REMUS Collection. A dusty lavender linen cover, the breed's celebrated colorpoint coat reimagined through extreme macro photography, every short, sleek hair captured in painterly light, every shift from cream to sable rendered as a small ceremony. A book for the most theatrical of cats.
