SIAMESE

The Siamese is one of the oldest and most distinctive breeds in the world, a sacred temple cat of the Kingdom of Siam, depicted in the Tamra Maew, a fourteenth-century Thai manuscript of cat poetry. When the breed first arrived in the West, as a diplomatic gift from Bangkok to the British Consul-General in 1884, it caused an immediate sensation that has never quite subsided.

The Siamese has been the cat of choice for the literary and the louche: T.S. Eliot wrote about them, Vivien Leigh adored them, and the breed has appeared in everything from Disney's Lady and the Tramp to the apartments of contemporary novelists and stylists.
