DOG COLLECTION
BICHON
DESCRIPTION
The Bichon Frise is the little cloud of the Mediterranean, a companion dog whose ancestors sailed with the merchants and mariners of the old trade routes, prized on the island of Tenerife long before it had a name. Small, white, and endlessly cheerful, it was bred for one purpose above all others: to delight.
From the decks of trading ships it rose to the courts of Europe. Francis I and Henry III of France carried their Bichons in high-sided baskets hung from the neck, and the breed gazes out from the canvases of Titian and Goya, a fixture of Renaissance portraiture and royal affection. When court fashions changed it reinvented itself again, charming crowds as a circus performer, proof that this is a dog that has never once failed to find an audience.
The Bichon edition captures that lightness. A lavender linen cover, the breed's soft powder-puff coat and dark, button eyes rendered through extreme macro photography, every curl and wisp caught like spun cotton, the expression open and impossibly sweet. A book as bright, buoyant, and joyful as the dog itself.
