The Process
Every REMUS volume begins in silence. A single creature, a single light, a single lens, and time enough to do the work properly.
The photography
Our photographer works at extreme magnification, often at distances of less than a centimeter from the subject. This is not the photography of portraits; it is the photography of geology, of forest canopies seen from the air, of the surface of the moon. A coat becomes a landscape. A wrinkle becomes a fault line. A whisker becomes architecture. The animal disappears into its own texture, and reappears transformed.
The color
Each volume is bound in a single shade of linen, chosen to amplify the breed: the deep emerald of the Bulldog, the ivory of the French Bulldog, the bordeaux of the Dalmatian, the olive of the Golden. The color is not decorative. It is, in our view, half the language of the book.
The book
Premium-weight art paper. Hardcover binding sewn rather than glued. Embossed type. A custom slipcase in matching linen. Printed in editions designed to remain beautiful for decades on the shelf.
The intention
A REMUS volume is not a catalogue of a breed. It is a slow meditation on what we love about it. We make the books we would want to receive ourselves — objects of the kind that quietly accrue meaning over years, opened often and never set aside.
