DESCRIPTION

The Bombay is a panther in miniature, and it was made on purpose. In 1958, a breeder named Nikki Horner set out from Louisville, Kentucky to create a cat that looked like the black leopard of India, crossing a sable Burmese with a black American Shorthair until she had it: a small cat with a patent-leather coat and wide copper eyes. She named it for the Indian city, for the panther of the subcontinent.

The result is the closest thing to a wild cat that has ever asked to sit on a lap. Sleek, muscular and entirely black from nose to pads, the Bombay earned its nickname as the parlor panther, a cat bred for drama and devotion in equal measure. Recognised for championship in 1976, it remains one of the rarer and most striking of the pedigree breeds, a black cat that turns every old superstition on its head.

The Bombay edition is the most magnetic in the REMUS Collection. A peacock blue linen cover, the breed's glossy black coat reimagined through extreme macro photography, every sleek hair catching the light like polished jet, every copper eye holding the room. A tribute to the little panther that was dreamed up, and then made real.
